# Madonna Live – The Virgin Tour: An Unforgettable Debut Concert Odyssey
## North American Focus, Missed International Chances
Madonna's very first concert tour was strictly limited to the United States and Canada. Initially, there were plans to include dates in England and Japan, given her substantial fan bases in both countries. These plans emerged after a series of promotional gigs in 1983 - 1984 across New York City, parts of Europe, and Asia for her debut album *Madonna*. However, the final tour schedule didn't materialize those ideas. She later visited these countries during her 1987 *Who’s That Girl World Tour*.
## Overwhelming Demand in the US
Due to incredibly strong ticket sales, more US dates were added, and the shows were shifted to larger concert venues. Madonna impressively performed every scheduled date without any cancellations. In San Francisco, tour shirts were flying off the shelves at a staggering rate of one every six seconds. At New York City's renowned Radio City Music Hall, all 17,672 tickets for Madonna's show sold out in a record - breaking 34 minutes. Most other shows also sold out in similar record - breaking times.
## Energetic Performances and Iconic Looks
Madonna took the stage with the enthusiasm of a rising star. She excitedly asked the audience, “Will you marry me?” and enthralled them with her energy and a string of club, radio, and video hits like “Gambler” and “Burning Up”. Her looks were pure Boy Toy. Costume changes included colorful New Wave jackets for “Holiday” (resembling “Susan”, the character from her film debut *Desperately Seeking Susan*), and white wedding gowns like the one in her “Like A Virgin” music video. During “Like A Virgin”, she even sang a verse of “Billie Jean” as an homage to her Detroit roots, Motown influence, and pop rival Michael Jackson.
## Post - Tour: A Mark at Live Aid
After the tour, Madonna performed “Holiday”, “Into The Groove” and “Love Makes The World Go Round” at the historic African famine benefit concert Live Aid in Philadelphia.
