## Intriguing Plot
What lies within the love of the gypsy Carmen? Is it freedom and joy or humiliation and death? Can this divine feeling emerge amidst blood, filth, and human refuse in the decaying backyards of a modern city? In the opera's plot, Carmen, a tobacco factory worker, gets involved in a knife fight with another worker. She's arrested but captivates soldier José and flees. He becomes her lover and a smuggler, yet Carmen doesn't love poor José, and he tries to win her love back.
## Artistic Merits
“Carmen” is a true masterpiece of operatic art. Its music, full of life and light, celebrates the freedom of the human personality. The drama of collisions and conflicts is deeply authentic. The characters are vividly and passionately drawn, with all their psychological complexity. While José's character is dominated by the lyricism of the romance song, highlighting his gentle soul, Carmen's unruly spirit unfolds in the passionate rhythms and refrains of Spanish folk songs.
## Filming Location
The film was shot in Spain, without using sets, against the backdrop of the natural landscapes of the Andalusian province around Ronda, Carmona, and Seville.
