## The Story
Based on Maeterlinck’s symbolist version of the classic tale, Dukas’s *Ariane et Barbe-bleue* is a captivating opera. Free-spirited Ariane becomes the sixth wife of the infamous Barbe-bleue. He gives her seven keys to seven doors, strictly forbidding the use of the last one. Behind the first six doors, Ariane discovers glittering jewels. But when she unlocks the seventh, a terrifying reality awaits.

Stéphane Denève is widely acclaimed for his interpretation of French repertoire. This is the twelfth release from the Liceu-Opus Arte partnership. José van Dam shines as the villainous Barbe-bleue, while American soprano Jeanne-Michèle Charbonnet takes on the demanding role of Ariane, who remains on stage throughout the entire opera.
