# Europakonzert 2016 from Røros, Norway: A Classical Music Extravaganza

## The Artists and the Venue
The Europakonzert 2016 brought together musical greats. Composers Felix Mendelssohn (1809 - 1847), Bjarne Brustad (1895 - 1978), Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827), and Edvard Grieg (1843 - 1907) took center stage. Conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, with Vilde Frang on violin and the Berliner Philharmoniker, this concert was held at a truly remarkable venue.

The program included Edvard Grieg's short and poetically wonderful “Evening in the mountains”. Also, the talented Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang participated. Her playing, marked by warmth, elegance, and effortless virtuosity, was perfect for Mendelssohn’s noble and songful Violin Concerto in E Minor.

## A Glimpse into the Philharmoniker’s Season
The audience also got an insight into a key project of the Philharmoniker’s 2015/2016 season. Sir Simon Rattle and the orchestra performed Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony, which had created a stir both in Berlin and during international tours.

## Musical Innovations in the Works
Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto was a masterpiece that blended Classical proportions, Romantic spirit, and form innovations. For instance, the solo instrument introduced the first theme, the cadenza was in an unusual position, and the first movement flowed seamlessly into the slow movement.

In contrast, Beethoven’s Third Symphony was revolutionary, reflecting the social upheavals in revolutionary France.
