## The Story Behind The Theater Equation
The Theater Equation is a 2016 live album and DVD from Arjen Anthony Lucassen’s progressive rock/metal rock opera project Ayreon. It's a live performance of the 2004 album The Human Equation, featuring a cast, choir, and small orchestra. This marks the first time an Ayreon album was played live in its entirety and the first Ayreon live release. Although two other Lucassen projects had Ayreon songs in their live albums before: Live on Earth by Star One (2003) and Live in the Real World by Stream of Passion (2006).
Four shows were held in Rotterdam between September 18 - 20, 2015, with the last performance being the one recorded for the album. Most of the original album's cast was on the tour, like James LaBrie of Dream Theater, Marcela Bovio of Stream of Passion, Heather Findlay, Eric Clayton, and Irene Jansen. Despite initially saying he wouldn't perform live and would only be an advisor, Lucassen took the stage as Forever of the Stars at the end of the show. Anneke van Giersbergen also joined, replacing Mikael Åkerfeldt as Fear.
