Conducted by Paolo Noseda, the performance was top - notch. Diana Damrau shone as the priestess Leila. Tenor Matthew Polenzani (Nadir) and baritone Mariusz Kwiecien (Zurga) delivered passionate performances in their love - filled rivalry.

As the *New York Times* noted, Kwiecien was an ideal Zurga, Polenzani a believable Nadir, and Damrau brought her all to Leila. Noseda's conducting made every musical moment count.
