## The Opera's Significance
*Capriccio*, subtitled a conversation piece with music and premiered in Munich in 1942, was Richard Strauss’ compositional masterpiece and farewell to opera. Set in a rococo chateau near Paris, it explores the erotic relationships among poet Olivier, composer Flamant, and countess Madeleine. More importantly, it delves into the fundamental opera question: Is music or the word more crucial?

Strauss' work is filled with quality and rich relationships, from the opening string sextet to the finale. As the undecided countess asks, "Can you help me find the ending for her opera? Is there one that is not trivial?"

## The New Production's Sound
