## The Inspiration Behind the Opera
Based on George Crabbe's 1810 poem *The Borough*, Britten masterfully evokes the North Sea in all its moods. The opera is closely linked to Aldeburgh, where Crabbe lived in the late 18th century and Britten in the 20th, and where both the poem and opera were penned.

## The Performance
Directed by Tim Albery, the performances placed the audience on the beach to watch the story unfold as dusk fell over the sea. The cast and chorus, led by Alan Oke as Peter Grimes, Giselle Allen as Ellen Orford, and David Kempster as Captain Balstrode, sang live with amplification.
